Los Gatos/San Jose Aquarists

I want to make relationships with other aquarists in this area. Feel free to email me and just say hi. I think its always a good idea to have a rapport or at least knowledge of other aquarists around you. I often have extra stuff i wouldn't mind to give away. I know of one aquarist near me who has swapped with me once already.

Here's just some info about me. I keep three fish tanks. 10, 20, 30 gallons and i have helped setup 3 other tanks that my relatives keep around 55 gallons. I would keep more if i had the room.

I started fish keeping in January and dove into plants with java moss first as shelter for my fry.

I am breeding cherry shrimp right now in a 20 gallon planted tank.

I finished a semester at west valley college already and i am working with vector marketing as a summer job.

Hey there, Jimmy. Might want to check out the San Francisco Bay Area Aquatic Plant Society (www.sfbaaps.com). There are a few members on this board and we try to get together every once in awhile (approx. once a month) to hang out, talk about plants and do swaps at the open houses (last OH was over at Bill's house).

Yep. Best thing you can do is join SFBAAPS. We're a very informal group, and as Eric mentioned, we try to meet monthly either at a member's open house or at some public space (typically a cafe or pizza place).

Ibn, Bharada, I emailed a request to join, but have not gotten a response

Do you know what's up with that? I'm not evil. I promise!

jimmy, I'm in the lovely city of Mountain View!

I started fish keeping way back before I knew what dating was.
It was goldfish from the fair and um, I put 6 of them in an old mayonaise jar

LOL.... then it snowballed from there. I have about.... lesseeee.... 8 tanks running right now.

Are you in SVAS (silicon valley aquatics society (if I remember the acronym right))?

Sarah, try e-mailing again. Like I said, we're not all that formal a group so sometimes things get lost in the shuffle.

I'm not a member of SVAS although I may join at some future date.

Definitely try another email. I had to do it twice myself before Alan got my email and sent me the invitation.

Most of the members in the group are pretty spread throughout the Bay Area and isn't confined to just the North Bay (S.F.). We also try to vary where the open houses are held so that it wouldn't be too big of a hassle for others to make it.

It sounds like a good idea to meet people but i truly don't have the time for traveling far. I would rather keep e mail buddies which i do have time for in the day.

Then I'm not quite sure what you're looking for beyond what you can find here, or on any of the other online forums.

ditto. I live in San Jose, but I enjoy going to the SFBAAPS plant swap meetings to meet other hobbiests in person, seeing their tanks and chatting about plants. If just for emails, these forums work just fine, plus they have the private message function if needed, and SFBAAPS have a Yahoo! group to post messages within the club.

I will do aquascapes after I collect all the plant species and grow them to perfection.

When I lived in San Jose, I was a member of the Pacific Coast Cichlid Association, which meets every month at the Round table pizza on Moorpark. Usually around 90 people and several plant people. Since I left, the Silicon Valley Aquarium Society was formed, and I think they meet at the same place. They have become a large group as well and there are some plant people in that group too. I used to know everybody that worked at Dolphin, including the owner and her sons, but it has been about four years now since I moved to Oregon!
