Looking for capping material alternatives in Sacramento

I am looking into making my own substrate for a DSM tank.

I have been having a difficult time finding a cheap, black sand type capping material. It seems a number of materials mentioned on forums, like 3M color quartz, have been discontinued.

I saw this suggested on the forums: http://www.substratesource.com/index...rate&pn=CB0102

I have ordered a sample, but I still feel I could do better with a local alternative.

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a similar or more appropriate material, especially any available in the Sacramento area, that would make an appropriate cap.

Thanks in advance.
