It's not that dead. They even quit rolling up the sidewalk at night where I live.

I'm in Searcy....my local fish store keeps asking why I would ever want plants in a tank...because fish would only eat them.

So yeah it feels pretty lonely out here when it comes to planted tanks!

Have the owners of that store found out about internet yet ?
Doesn't seem likely...LOL...
Not much better here in Hot Springs. One Petco, one Petsmart and two mom & pop
type, one of which is comming along pretty well.
And the Petsmart just expanded from three or four kinds of "plant culture" type plants
to about 10 different types so they may be catching on to the plant thing.

Im in conway. Its either petsmart or petcountry. Im lucky that pet country will order stuff for me, but as far as actual stock fish or plants is barely there. Unless you want bettas. They have a decent size stock and dont keep them in the cup of deaths. Plants theres usually 4-5 different ones thats it :-(

Yeah world's underwater in Fayetteville is great. Trying out Marine World Tropical Fish in Hot Springs this weekend. Supposed to be the largest in the state! I'm near El Dorado. Not crap down here

I live near Clarksville, about 60 miles E of Ft. Smith or 20 miles W of Russellville. At least Rslv has a PetSmart. There is also a pet store named Davis but it's attached with an open door to their smoke shop so I can't stand going in there for all the smoke lingering in amongst the tanks & animals!

The PetSmart has a fairly nice variety of plants.

Here's a question; how often do I change the fluorescent plant lights in my 55 gal tank (I have 2 lights). I've read somewhere that they stop emitting the daylight waves & need replacing before they burn out entirely.

Honestly I'm not on here much. I'm visually impaired & it's difficult to look at things on my computer so I'm limited with my time on here because of the pain.

I'm also from Searcy, and agree that the local fish store here...isn't exactly adequate for new ideas....

I run T5HO Aquatic Life fixtures on one tank I have and I change mine out about every 4-6 months. The plants usually let me know if I have gone too long. I also would recommend changing out one bulb at a time over the course of a week or two when you go to switch them out with new ones. No scientific proof that I have for that one but I just feel it's a smoother transition to the new bulbs on the plants in my mind lol.

They recently had a thread on that in here and a couple of people produced articles
from manufacturers stating that at 2 years they show a 10% drop in overall light out put.
I know heat effects things and I think that it changes the type of light the bulbs can deliver or spectrum if you will.
I will stick to one year as I still at that time can't tell any difference in them or the plant's growth with them. It's probably a low tech thing/w the slow growth that is normal for low tech.
Almost forgot to add the reason I checked in here...
I got a couple of plants today "collecting" in Lake Ouichita.

Those are some type of native hair grass.
And this is what kind of Pennywort(?)

Well see what happens here as these tanks have only single bulb T8 in them.
Obviously the date on the camera needs to be changed.
