The 15th annual Southwest Area Killifish Event (or SAKE) is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2013. We expect to have three programs, a giant raffle, and both a silent and a regular auction. There is no admission fee and everyone is welcome. We do encourage you to donate fish and aquatic plants for the auctions to help us defray our expenses. Although technically a "killifish event," all types of fishes suitable for aquaria can be donated to the auctions. To be successful, we rely upon both your contributions of aquarium fishes, aquatic plants, and live foods, and your participation in the raffle and auctions. Also, we expect another excellent selection of aquatic plants to be available again this year.
LOCATION: SAKE will be held at a new location:
La Quinta Inns & Suites
2510 W Greenway Rd (NE corner of I-17 at Greenway)
Phoenix, AZ 85023
For room reservations (2 double beds) at La Quinta for Saturday night, we have a group rate of $103.50 + tax. Call 1-866-527-1498 no later than 02/15/2013. Use Confirmation Code: 0908GRRMLA
See the photos of the La Quinta Inn below. Pictures show the front entrance, lobby, meeting room, and breakfast area.
PROGRAMS: We expect to have three presentations on different topics; AKA Board member and noted killifish breeder Chris Weatherford will discuss west African killifishes; Scott Jacobson will be returning in early 2013 from another fish collecting trip to Peru, and will talk about his experiences; and Larry Vires, author and fish breeder, will review plecostomuses and possibly some catfishes.
There is no registration fee to attend SAKE. You can register at the door; however, we encourage you to "register" before the event. There may be some incentives offered at the event for those who register early. To register early, on or after January 10, 2013, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
