Sounds to me like your diffuser is leaking.

You can fixit with some silicone sealant but why bother if you can just return it.

A 2 liter bottle is pretty large for a 10Gal tank.
If you have a power filter you can just attach the hose to the glass with a suction cup and let the suction from the intake suck it in and diffuse it thru the impeller in the power filter. This will also help to dissipate some of the extra CO2.
