Cryptocoryne balansae

I've only kept these for about six months now. I've had them in a couple of low tech tanks. It seems to grow very tall, but thin for me. I have a copy of the Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plans, and the listed max height is 14 inches. I'm seeing shoots easily reaching the top of the given tank. In my new 29g I have half of the shoots within a few inches of the surface (15-17").

Is this normal? Are the plants just young, and will the leaves thicken over time?

Also, who quickly with the plant itself add new shoots? It has been pretty slow going overall which I find surprising since the shoots have grown many inches since being added to the new tank.

TIA

i have seen aquarium balansae that were about 4' long.

the leaves grow wider as the whole plant gets bigger.

Blansae leaves are pretty tall and thin, the widest you'll get is about 1 inch per leaf.

Thanks everyone, that helps quite a bit. Right now they are all under a half inch wide. Anything close to an inch thick will look nice. Trying to gauge if this will be more of an accent plant or a solid background plant.
