Common name= lotus, sci= Nymphaea

What's up with the Red and green tiger "lotus"?
It's common name is tiger lotus, but it's scientific name is Nymphaea zenkeri, and with Nymphaea being the genus for LILLIES, why do we call it a "lotus"?
Lotus's genus is Nelumbo. And, lotus come from america and asia, not africa.

I am curious to what it will do when introduced to a pond, i geuss it's experiment time. To SnS!!!!!!!!

the 'lotus' just stuck.... You're right, nymphaea are water lillies not lotus... They're completely different genus & species.... They're 2 different types of plants that evolved separately but look alike (convergent evolution?).

I've heard, they'll send out a flower like a lotus in a pond.
