Fast growing plants that won't invade the tank

What plants would you recommend I put in a tank to fend off algae and take the nutrients out? I would prefer something that wouldn't take over the tank unless I wanted it to (for those of you who warned me about H.M. I am very ok with it taking over the tank ). Thanks.
