Anubias - Amazing growth ! I can't get over it.
I'm an Anubias lover, but know full well that they are very slow-growing plants, producing only one new leaf about every 3 or 4 weeks on average, under reasonably good conditions.
I've had them in tanks many times, but only saw modest growth and development, as expected.
But I recently had this amazing experience with them, which I just had to share with you:
Just over a month ago I picked up 4 nice healthy Anubias from a local grower/supplier - which were about 2" to 3" high, with around 4 leaves on each plant.
I attached them to some driftwood in a matured 15 gal tank - gave them about 6 hrs a day of CO2 with a Fluval 88 mini CO2 kit, around 7 hrs/day of good T5 HO lighting, and some weekly moderate dosings of NPK macros, and trace micros - and did large weekly wcs.
Well here it is, 4 weeks later, and the Anubias have almost tripled in size to 6"- 8", and there are nearly 50 leaves combined on the plants, some having 14-15 leaves or so. I've cut the rhizomes on 2 plants, to make 6, and could easily cut a few more, to easily have 9-12 plants.
They were growing a new leaf every couple/few days - and I just could not believe my eyes !
I've never seen growth like this, particularly from Anubias - perhaps some of you others have.
Just goes to show that lighting, CO2, and ferts can produce such outstanding growth as that on such normally very slow-growing plants ! Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done.
I'm still a bit in chock over these results.
