Crypt Undulata (alagator weed)

I have one of these potted and in regular gravel using a smaller LED in a 4 gallon betta tank. What should I do to keep this thing from dying without spending money? I have a bottle of API liquid CO2.

Root tabs are pretty much the cheapest ferts you can get, and since crypts are root feeders, a really good way to see them over a long period of time. People sell capsules full of Osmocote+ for pretty cheap, maybe look into those? You'd only need one every 1-2 months. Other than that, upgrading the light (use a desk lamp if you have a spare one) would be good too. I've heard that liquid co2 can make some crypts stop growing, so if you do use it, dose very lightly.

Yes, I know you said improvements without spending money. The thing is, the more you put into caring for plants, the more you get out. It doesn't have to be expensive, if you just plan things out and buy smart

Bought 10 root tabs on ebay for $5. So do I just put one in the gravel near the plant or what?

Yeah, one at the base of the plant, and no less than 5" between tabs, if you have multiple plants. Make sure to bury them at last 1" deep, farther if you can. Working fast helps too, since most tabs want to dissolve quickly. If they end up making your water brown from dissolving too quickly, you might g get a quick case of green water, but I've never had algae issues with them.

This plant is growing like crazy! It seems to be doing just fine in gravel with a root tab.

That good, crypts are easy if you give them what they want (fortunately, that's not hard!)
