Direct Sunlight

Is Direct Sunlight bad or good on planted tanks? Am currently fighting an algae invasion which I am writing in my thread here.

The only bad things I can think of are heat from direct sunlight and algae growth due to a wide range spectrum. But the good could be plant growth due to high lumen values which can't be achieved by cheap lights.

In general, direct sunlight is to be avoided.

There are issues such as overheating, too much light, uncontrollable light (intensity and duration), non-reliable light (clouds, etc).

Hide the substrate from light with duct tape(on the outide of the tank, of course.) Vals make a great live-in window blind, as well.
