Growing moss in a small container - will this work?

Hello all,

received a nice portion of Fissidens, this is sure to become my favorite moss and a happy replacement for my Java moss which is becoming ridiculously intrusive!

Had enough for 2 round SS mesh pieces I made, put one right in my nano tank, the other I would like to grow out some before adding to the big tank. Can I grow this in a cup with a CFL as in the pic below?

How often to change the water? Add ferts/excel or no? Will it hurt being a small volume of water and unmoving/unfiltered?

Thanks for the advice!

the moss can live like that. ive had some xmas sitting like that next to a tank for 2 months now not knowing what to do with it. no algae, but no growth either. i change the water when i remember.

if you want to really grow it, do so emersed.
go to my 10 gallon sorority journal (link in my sig) to see how awesome it works.
just put on a rock, keep in a closed container to keep it humid, and mist daily to twice daily.

Why wouldnt it These three container are the only survivors from the summer heatwave and much of it is ether algae infested or browned from heat so these aren't pretty.

From left to right,
ricca, Java, Java

The middle container grew a few strands up from the water level this weekend. I've ordered some macro and micro ferts (by dogfish's recommendation) to dose. Expecting them to arrive today so I'll let you know how they turn out. I'm also testing some algaecides and h2o2 dosing with the ricca in hopes of salvaging it.
