Which crypt?

I would like to have some Cryptocorynes in my tanks but the only one available locally is C. wendtii; I have tried this species 3 times and each time had permanent meltdown in about a month. Even after I year I saw no new growth.

The water here (New Orleans) is very hard; I dilute it with rainwater to get about 150 ppm dissolved solids, and my tanks are low light - aboout 1.3 watts/gallon.

Which species should I try?

If you are struggling with the wendtii's then you could be in trouble. They are IMO the easiest of all crypts with lighting and water quality. You are close to no light , not low light. What size tank and bulb are you using to come up with 1.3 wpg ?

I agree with Buck, if you can't grow Wendtii, don't waste your money on other crypts yet.

I suspect more of a nutrient problem than lighting. Wendtii just won't die on me even with practically no light. But do tell what bulb and tank size you have like Buck asked, because not all watts are created equal. More importantly, how do you dose your tank?

Truvu 100g Flourite, wet/dry, AHSupply 302w PC, PinPoint controller
10gallon15w T6+15w T8
55gallon40w T6 ODNO4x, no CO2. Discus grow out.
10gallon Tonina tank, 2x15w T6 ODNO 4x
I will do aquascapes after I collect all the plant species and grow them to perfection.
