R. Macrandra leaves turning clear

Hi everyone,

I recently got a couple stems of the above plant through mail order. I noticed when I got it it had a few clear leaves but thought it was from the shipping process. I know this plant doesnt ship well, so maybe it got a little too beat up. What else could be wrong with it? Is it melting? It has growth from a few stems but the older and some new growth tend to get little clear spots then eventually the whole leave. I have my temp se at 84 deg, I know of members here mentioning they do fine in that range but is heat playing a factor in it? Thanks!
Pete

I have it in 83F, and Wahter who frequents discus forums had it in 86F and no problem. So heat is not a problem.

It seems r. macrandra almost always goes through a melt down stage, no matter if you get it from another hobbiest in good condition or from a vendor in emersed form.
It took me three tries to finally get this plant going, mine turned around after sulking for MONTHS. And now it is a weed, I don't know how to kill it.

So I guess you need to be very patient with this one, keep consistent nutrient dosing, and hope it will turn around eventually.

I finally identified I was underdosing K in my tank with my recent plant deficiencies(saw some holes in older leaves, including macrandra). How much K are you dosing?

Truvu 100g Flourite, wet/dry, AHSupply 302w PC, PinPoint controller
10gallon15w T6+15w T8
55gallon40w T6 ODNO4x, no CO2. Discus grow out.
10gallon Tonina tank, 2x15w T6 ODNO 4x
---------------------
I will do aquascapes after I collect all the plant species and grow them to perfection.

try double that. I was dosing 1/2 tsp in my 100 gallon every other day, still got K deficiency(holes in older leaves, some plants stunted). Now I tried 1.5 tsp every other day, many plants exploded with new growth. Maybe I am overshooting a bit, but I want to see what non-K deficient plants look like first.

Shalu,
Are you dosing KNO3 and KH2P04 for NO3 and PO4? Or do you add a high amount of K because you are not using these? I am adding 1/8 tsp every other day + KNO3 and KH2PO4 and I am stilll seeing some holes. If you are dosing those as well, it seems that I may have to up the dose of K. Thanks man.

Did you change your dosing? I believe you said above that you are dosing 1.5 tsp every other day?

yeah, that might be a bit overkill, I just wanted to eliminate the K deficiency for sure. I still dose 1-1.5 tsp every other day.
