I'm growing didiplis in my tank at 4.3 WPG (330 watts on a 75g) and the tips turn a rusty red color and thats about 12" down from the lights. I don't think I've ever seen it bright red before.

it did not need too much light to turn red(also rust red, not bright red) for me. Just lots of macro/micro. I have it both in higher light(3wpg AHSupply PC in 100gallon) and less high light(3wpg low quality screw-in CF in 10gallon).

Truvu 100g Flourite, wet/dry, AHSupply 302w PC, PinPoint controller

55gallon40w T6 ODNO4x, no CO2. Discus grow out.
10gallon Tonina tank, 2x15w T6 ODNO 4x

I will do aquascapes after I collect all the plant species and grow them to perfection.

I'd be less worried about getting red tips than just getting that crap to grow at all. If your lighting is too low or the bottom of the plant gets shaded, it just turns black and melts, leaving the top of the plant to float around. Lame.
I am debating trying some out in my 75 gallon tank, which is at around 2.3 wpg right now (3.6 when all the lights are on). The glosso grows fine, so I imagine the d. diandre might, too.

Two 1 GA desktops, a 5 gallon, a 2.5 gallon, a 10 gallon, a 20 gallon, a 25 gallon, and two 75 gallon tanks, all planted.
I am an expert on algae, so ask me if you have questions. I know how to grow it, just not how to get rid of it.

I had d. diandra melt once long time ago(blackening stem bottom up), but it was probably due to nutrient issue. Now it won't melt no matter what. I have it as a bunch using plant weight, so the bottom is totally shaded, no problem.
