I usually prune the older, cruddy looking fronds (at the base of the plant). When the plant is getting too large, I leave them on and wait for one to spout a baby. After the baby fern gets to a decent size (very quickly), I remove the original plant and plant the baby in it's place.

I'm going to get rid of mine when I re-aquascape here shortly. Too out of control for a 26-G tank.

Hah, mine got out of control within a month...and that was in my 125g! But it did its job in getting the tank up and running.

If you plant Water Sprites into the substrate, they get out of control really quick. Try to either let them float, or use a rubber sucker and attach them to the back glass. The roots will find their way into the substrate, but can be pruned, and the plants seem to stay more compact this way.

I wouldn't want to miss the texture of leaves and light green color... but planted they just seem to explode.

Maybe a 100 gal cube with a water sprite in the middle? Hmmm...
