Hey everyone,
So I have a new (2 week old) tank that is going downhill fast. The majority of my plants are losing all chlorophyll and turning completely white - although not entirely dead yet. The main 2 species being effected in the photos are Monte Carlo and a type of rotala - but the Limnophila hippuridoides and some others seem to be doing okay so far. What is causing this?
The tank was set up 2 weeks ago with an aquasoil substrate, pressurized CO2 at ~30ppm, Planted Plus 24/7 lighting, and I began EI dosing on day 3. I have been doing 50% water changes daily to help minimize algae. The water here seems pretty soft with GH readings from the tap varying from 2-5 degrees which leads me to think it may be caused by a calcium deficiency. I bought some GH booster yesterday to go with my EI regime. Other research shows that "whitening" could be caused by iron deficiency or not enough light. Iron deficiency doesn't make sense with fresh aquasoil and regular doses of CSM+B and lighting doesn't make sense unless the light is somehow defective. Additionally, I have not been treating my tap water. Is it possible that chlorine (or other substances in the tap water) could be causing this?
Looking forward to your feedback.
