Those of you who have these groundcovers, do you have issues with material buildup underneath your substrate?
I can see TONS of debri underneath my substrate, but i cannot siphon it since my staurogyne repens are growing in that area. whenever i do, they become uprooted and its a mess to deal with. I've read that folks don't always siphon in these areas to avoid this issue.
However, I see gases building up and blue - green algae starting to form underneath the surface. Is there any way to help aerate/ clean my substrate without disturbing my groundcover? should i leave it be?
I'm also starting to have BBA and staghorn algae issues. I've reduced my lighting and upped my co2 hoping that it will help. I'm not sure if these issues are also connect to not siphoning out the gravel. =/
Any advice?
