Good Idea?

I've looked around on this site for this kind of question but would like some fresh opinions...

Would putting an inch of topsoil (80% reed sedge peat moss/ 20% sand) and then a cap of 2 inches of floramax work well? I have tap water with a relatively high pH and the buffering would be a bonus.

Going high tech with this tank.

Are you harvesting the sedge peat from the wild? How nutritious is it to plants?

Ah. A little bit of googling and I found that sedge peat is higher in nitrogen and less acidic when compared to sphagnum peat. Sounds good to use. Though if you're going high tech, I suggest using water column ferts as well.
