So I've started up another soil tank as an experiment. Its a nano, 7.5 gallons. I've had the soil curing in this tank for 3 months with nothing in it accept for water, and dead plant cuttings an snails. This soil is now extremely rich with snail feces, mulm, tec.
I stirred it all up last night to see if I had any nasty gas pockets anywhere and was quite surprised to find that it was clean... the soil was pretty settled, but the fine gravel I had mixed in (1/16th to 1/8th of an inch in size) kept it from compacting too badly.
I've decided to not cap the soil with gravel or sand this time around. I want to have a muddy bottom and create a realistic swampy look. The only hazard here is that the tank will take quite a while for the silt to settle after yesterdays manic stirring.. lol
I'm going to try and syphon off the finest silt after it settles a bit.
I've planted 6 baby crypts, 4 baby amazon swords, some Dwarf Sag, and a couple of other smaller plants I collected locally. When the mud settles I'll take some pics.
