Trying to decide between soil and EC

I know there are a lot of threads about these two types of substrates. I canít make a decision. A couple of years ago I bought 8 or so bags of EcoComplete. I never used it but now Iím reworking my 75g to house Corydoras. I want a black, sandy surface for them. My intention at the time was to screen out the larger pieces and use the finer portion of the EC. Now Iím considering a soil base with black sand on topÖbut the threads Iíve read say there can be a release of ammonia initially when doing this. I need to be able to put the fish back in when this is done. Any advice? Any suggestions other than these two? Thank you.

Take your soil and place it in buckets with water for a couple of weeks that way the ammonia phase is over and you can swap the substrate and put the fish back quickly. I'd suggests using flourite or your EC to cap the soil. My Cory's aren't bothered by either cap.

Go with flourite all the way. EC is horrible....I tried it for the first time and I hate how high my pH is now in the tank.'s way overrated.
