I have some black sand and a new bag of 8.8lb Fluval shrimp stratum for my new 15g tank. My question is that will I be able to maintain high sloped on the back if I put the stratum over the sand? I know sand alone would even out over time, so I'm wondering if the stratum over the sand would help hold down the shape.
If you want slopes to hold their shape, you'll need to use something like lava rock beneath the substrate in order to maintain appearance of the substrate.
Okay, I added stones at various points under the high/mid level of the sand to create little walls (and that large dragon stone in the front right to create a sharp decline) lighting sucks so you can't see any depth..). Hoping it stays sloped!! Plants and water go in tomorrow!
