soil in pots?

Hi all

I have a 30 litre tank set up with a gravel bottom. I have some easy fast growing plants that are doing fine; but I want to get some nicer ones that are not so easy to grow.

My question is, rather than change the gravel to a god quality soil (probably ANA) which would upset my fish, would it be possible just to put the soil in some smallish pots, plant the plants in that, then bury the pots in the gravel?

I will add a CO2 system.

Thanks for any comments.

I have an entire 10 gallon packed with potted plants. If you have a michaels craft store near you they have small clay pots for super cheap.

I've done this before with those little peat pots- just plant the pot in it with whatever you are using, and then stuff the whole thing in the gravel. That way the peat pot keeps the mess contained initially, but still allows the plant roots to grow out. Hopefully by the time the roots grow out, you've built up some mulm and stuff in the gravel.
