Depends on how much potting mix, I think the MTS thread says 10% clay, but I think that is way too much. I normally do 5% or less and that seems like plenty. And to be honest I have never actually calculated an exact amount. I just mix some in and go with it.

I started with 6 bags of potting mix, and after I sifted it all, I am down to rather large storage bin I think it one of those 18 or 25 gallon ones, I have to look. The clay I got is 5 lbs it red clay as several suggested to me. I was thinking of adding half. Any ideas if that way to much? Or should I add all of it?

In my last batch I lost track of how much clay and the MTS was kinda coco brown. My Crypts are growing crazy. Granted there's other "stuff" in there too.

My point being if you go a bit over the recommended 5-10% it isn't a disaster.

I used WAY WAY WAY too much in my 29 gallon. It was pink in color, but in it went regardless. Time will tell if it was a terminal mistake or if it's not too big a deal to over-do the clay...
