Fluval flora substrate

I just ordered a fluval flora and i'm trying to save money but want everything I need to do a nice tank. One thing I want to do is slope the substrate and from looking around i'm hearing that they don't include enough substrate.

Any suggestions on what I should do to increase my substrate depth?

You can buy inert substrate like eco complete or floramax under the fluval flora. Or you can use stones like lava rocks, slate, etc to increase your substrate depth.

Is the fluval substrate inert or does it have available nutrients to plants?
