Pearling is a pretty obvious sign that things are good, but it doesn't seem like a necessary goal.

i feel like my plants are growing well...what bba i have, came with a bad plant package...i didn't do a bleach rinse, and thoroughly regret it but it doesn't seem to be spreading, so i guess that's also a good sign?

Very good points to add, everyone!
Oh okay btmmer92, I see 6.6 on the contoller and the drop checker is green... (using reference 4dkh water)

Anyone know how often you have to change the solution in the drop checker?

I have been using the RedSea drop checker which does not come with a reference solution. My tap water is about 3-4 degrees KH so I have just been using tap water.

Should I get a new drop checker which actually comes with reference solution?

Good article, helped me understand the funcion of drop check

The shop keeper i go, has some really nice planted tanks in display and he said to me that he only changes the drop check solution months by months,
He uses the jbl one and says that he doesnt need to change it regulary since the co2 display levels are always good,

I dont know prices yet but if it inst that expensive to change monthly, better safe than sorry

Here is a color chart - i find this very helpful

if you don' t have a reference solution just ignore the bottom row. The colors in the top row tell you where you are in terms of ppm CO2. Chart ONLY applies to quality dKH 4 solutions, if you use tank water for tap water to make your own solution then the comparison does not apply.

That's a fantastic chart; I ended up just taking photos at various times as a reference!
