If you're using a kettle, you're standing over the stove anyway...
I do have an electric kettle but it shuts off automatically. I sort of like the idea of a fume hood when heating plastics so the stove seems like a good location. I can't remember where my heat gun is--obviously I tried stripping paint with it to the detriment of my brain.
