One time I found a praying mantis on a tree in my back yard. Very cool, but she kept trying to attack my hand, so I had to get a stick to move her. (I was little and afraid she would hurt me)

My roommate says I'll die by giant turtle.

house gecko
hermit crab
some of the smaller day geckos
you can add water with and island (paludarium!!) and do some newts, small toads or frogs, firbelly newts or firebelly toads. You can just keep it wet and do some of the smaller salamanders with some live plants
there are a surprising number of snakes that are small enough to be comfortable in 2-3gal tanks
If i were to do a bug i would do a rhinoceros or stag or Goliath beetle. If its legal maybe a walking stick!
