For shrimp keep nitrates and everything else low. Thats a given
But u should be more concerned with tds, gh, kh. Those are the main factors

If u have decently hard water, id try sulawesi shrimp. I personally think they are beautiful
hmmm... the only reason i ever test my water is to be able to answer questions when people ask what my parameters are.
i DO test my water in other ways, like placing a drop of water on a slide and seeing what it leaves behind when it evaporates. i look at the crystals under a microscope. cant say how accurate that is... lol
