Outdoor Hot tub to tilapia/crayfish pond conversion

I just moved in to live with a friend in his house. He has a 450gal hot tub in the backyard in a sunny area. Has a big filter and heater but we don't want to heat up the water unless is extreme cold and we need to.
The idea is to breed fish and crayfish to eat and also have edible plants like azolla and duckweed for the livestock to munch on. It will be topped of with tap water or hard water (waste) from a RO/DI system.

Any suggestions? Thoughts?

I'm already looking into something very similar. The crawfish stock is already breeding up in the fishroom as we speak. I think as long as you keep the filtration turned down and add some bio-media you should be good. The bonus is when you're ready to cook some crawfish, all you do is add some seasoning and turn the heater back on!

I could see problems with the depth, but as long as the water is circulating, go for it!

Just make sure you drain/fill the hot tub a couple times to remove as many chemicals as possible (if any chemicals have been added to the water) other than that it sounds like a great plan! Built in bubbler, filter, and powerheads, love it
