My solution to bad staghorn was Siamese algae eaters. I was somewhat controlling it by removal of bad areas and h2o2 treatment (spot mostly), light and fert changes did not do much, but the SAE were the real solution. They took a few days before they even started eating, then in just a couple days - gone. The only thing they won't clean is anything within 1-2" of the top, where I have a lot of flow (whether flow or just top dissuades them I do not know -- they seem OK in other high flow areas).
Real SAE, not fakes, if you go that route.
