Hard to tell from the photos what you have, there isn't enough detail in the photograph to see the strands of algae.

Shut off the filter and dose with some hydrogen peroxide for 15 to 20 mins.

Pics aren't any better. But hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a good start. If it is cladophora then H2O2 works well for it. Spot treat using a syringe or eye dropper right on the algae. No more than 2-3 mL per gallon of your tank. Do not pour it in the tank, it needs to be directly applied to the algae or it won't work. It does nothing to fish/etc...

For the walls would it help if i took some and put it on a paper towel and then wiped the walls like i do usually just with the peroxide on it?

I'm not sure if that would work, I've never tried soaking a towel in H2O2 and wiping algae down with it. I do know that spot dosing with a syringe works well though. You can get syringes from any pharmacy, they sell them as baby medicine syringes to force feed babies liquid medicine.

gotcha i need to grab some. Probably after finals. I only presented the towel idea because the algae like covers the walls not completely but little spots everywhere so spot treating is harder! May give it a try as an experiment haha

Thank you!

Hmm, try see if you can get a buddy with one of those touch phones to take a photo of the algae for you. The cameras on those things are pretty sharp. It sounds like you might have a few different species of algae, or possibly not cladophora. It would be helpful to know exactly what species you have since not all of them react the same way with H2O2. Either way it won't hurt to try it out when you finish finals.

Good luck on finals by the way I know that time of year can be stressful, especially if you are taking any science courses.

Im taking them with my iphone 5 haha ill try here after while to get a better pic, they do look better on the phone than whats posting, ill try photobucket later!

There are at least 2 different kinds of algae though!

Thanks! Finals are without a doubt stressful, add to that i was supposed to take the LSAT last weekend and it got delayed to this Saturday due to weather here in TX, as well as 2 of my finals from Monday are now next Monday, wonderful ice storm! haha Not a science major though, Finance so more understandings of things than all the memorization involved in the science courses (i have a few friends who are entering nursing school those classes are insane)

I don't envy you and your LSAT. I've seen the horrible wordy verbal questions on that test and I want no part of it. Definitely not my favorite area of study.

I Had the pleasure of taking the MCATs twice in preparation for medical school and thank God I never have to take it again. That test was an exercise in pain.

Good luck on your LSAT when you take it!
