Are these brown diatoms?

Okay, so these two images above...is this diatoms?

They wipe off the glass really easily, like a cloth removes it without touching it.

Plants, a bit harder.

But pretty much; I had really really bad BBA ages ago. Nuked the tank, started fresh with new everything. No fish in tank yet, but will put them in either today or tomorrow.

Have 2 T5 globes, dose Excel daily and flourish/iron once a week. Lights go on at 10am and off at 8PM.

Will this go away when I add fish.

I just checked the pH and it's around 7.2, so nothing abnoral there.

I had the same deal yesterday. Was all over my sand and my rocks and plants. All I had to do was wipe all of it off by hand, mix up the sand. And do a 50% water change. And it's mostly gone now (amanos are working on the rest). I think it's a new tank thing.

Diatoms mostly show up in new tanks. Usually on your glass, equipment, and plants. It's nothing to worry about and will go away over time. If you don't like the look of it, you could rub it off of the glass and plants.

So not harmful?

I've never had it in any of my tanks, so I've never dealt with it before. And yeah I've taken it off the glass and plants, just wonder if it will go away by itself.

But if it doesn't, is there anything I can do about it other than water changes? Like is it effected by the fish, ferts or lighting?

Thanks for the responses guys.

Yep. I've got the exact same thing happening in my 2 week old tank right now. Lol. It's annoying but fairly easy to clean off if it bugs you.

No not harmful at all. Some tanks are different as to how long it will take for the diatoms to go away. My 60G was about a month and a half while my 15G took 3 months for them to go away.

As mentioned earlier, you can scrape it off if it does bug you but I normally just let it run it's course. It will eventually go away on its own.

If you are going to add oto's they will make quick work of the diatoms. They love that stuff!
