This is in my first tank, which is 2 weeks old and is 12gallons. I notice some fine thread like things that look like spider webs, with a thread going from one plant to another. I pulled a "thread" out and I couldn't tell if it was organic or not, but it seems to have come back to where I took it out. Is this hair algea?

Hi there, welcome to the Planted Tank.

It sounds like hair algae. If the tank is only 2 weeks old, it is still on its way to find balance, so try to be patient, remove what you can, and give it some time.

You might want to invest in a Nitrate and Phosphate testkit, imbalances of these two nutrients are often related to algae problems

Sounds like hair algae. Best way to eliminate it is to pull it out manually and then keep Nitrates between 5-10ppm and Phosphates between 0.5-1ppm. Sometimes an overabundance of iron can cause it to grow as well. You have a new tank and the nutrients are probably out of balance.
Like Wasser said, test the NO3 and PO4 levels and let us know what they are.

I have all the tests except phosphates and nitrates. I will get that this weekend.
