routine once a week blackouts for algae

Just curious if anyone has tried doing routine blackouts for algae treatment/maintenance?

I have co2, EI dosing 25gal tank with 10ppm nitrates (all i test) and with 4x t5ho bulbs and drop check at yellow green. It has some thread, green spot and black brush algae. I have been spot treating the bba and trying to manual remove gsa and thread. i have also up my phosphates for gsa.

I know I have some unbalance somewhere (likely high lights and low co2 but my puffers are gasping during peak co2 time already) but my plants are growing well and finally getting my HC to carpet and pearl.

I originally tried blackout for 3 days and it knocked everything down quite well (including many plants). now some of it is coming back.

I'll try once a week black out during my water change/no dosing day and see how it works. It seems the non dosing/reset day in EI schedule would be a day that algae get upper hand anyways so why not make it tough for algae to grow that day.

It's not good for the plants as well. I never tried, but I fear that the plants would suffer a lot under a regime of regular blackouts.

I think there are better ways of controlling algae, not an expert myself, still an algae grower.

Plants and algae grower.
