What to do when C02 is down

In my 75 gallon I dose EI and run C02. My light is a 65x4 Coralife pc fixture which is medium light per Hoppy's chart.

My problem is that when my C02 runs out and I take it to get filled the next day, staghorn algae appears. When I switched from a diffuser to a reactor I had one day of tuning the C02 levels, staghorn appeared. For me, 1 single day of C02 inconsistency causes PITA staghorn in an otherwise algae free tank.

Should I turn lights off on a day when I have to go get C02 filled? Is there any trick to not getting staghorn?

I think it would not hurt to off the lights for a day while you resupplied CO2. I have a 75 gallon with 2 X T5HO (high lighting per Hoppy's chart) and do turn them off with days I have to refill my cylinder. It just seems to be a more cautious approach towards preventing staghorn.

A day of no co2 wouldnt hurt. In my case I only refill CO2 on weekends. So, when I run out of CO2 say on Tuesday, I cut back half of the photo period.
