BGA in my Discus Tank(2 of them), Question!
Okay so I've read about a lot of the best ways to treat BGA, but I was hoping someone might have some insight on my particular situation.
Specs: 33g, Eheim 2217, Catalina t5 lighting at about 5 hours a day, Nitrates at 20, no C02.
To catch up, it's been growing on the glass, on the sand and in spots on my plants. I recently removed a large piece of manzanita that was covered with moss. It had become a bit overgrown, and I think it was contributing to a lot of decaying plant matter. Since then I've been doing daily water changes.
I also increased flow in the tank. Previously I had the spray bar facing up to cause a ripple, I've since angled it so a current sweeps across the bottom of the tank where my sand is being kind of ruined. I also added an airstone, which I understand could be trouble, but it's currently the only thing providing any ripple. I'm feeding them frozen brine shrimp.
Should I be trying to increase my Nitrates? Is there anything available at the LFS that I can add to discourage growth? FYI my fish are all doing very well and I keep the water super clean. Especially the last month or so. Any info is greatly appreciated!
