brown hairs on new blyxa

I just set up my first planted a few days ago and my blyxa Japonica seems to have all these brownish grayish hairs all over it. Is it an algae? If so what do I need to do?
I'm waiting for a regulator so that I can start CO2 and have been dosing Excel in the interim. I am only running one of my 3 lights so that I don't get a huge algae bloom as I wait for the CO2 as well...

Brownish-grayish hairs is usually algae. Which one is hard to say without a picture.

Get a syringe and squirt the Excel directly onto the algae. Do this with the filters turned off so the Excel can sit on the algae for awhile. Turn the filters back on after about 15 minutes. Keep doing this to different places each day. You should see the treated areas turn colors or just become algae free in 1-5 days (depending on many other factors).

Bright lights without CO2 and dosing ferts (excel is not a fertilizer) will commonly cause algae. Once you get your CO2 running and start dosing ferts, things should improve. Keep squirting the excel onto the algae to kill it until it's completely gone, and with the improved environment, it will hopefully not come back. Increase lighting very slowly. Most people think they need more light than they need so err on the side of less light than more light.
