...before adding more chemicals, we choose to increase water change frequency: by keeping the water in an ideal 20-60 ppm CO2 while changing at least 50% of the water volume every 5 days; this, and the offspring of 3 cherry red shrimp, corrected our algae issues in about 6 weeks; we have had it all too, Black Beard, blue green, spiro gyra, and others too. In a heavily planted tank as you claim, you deserve some cherry red shrimp!
Currently, we are dollowing Tom Barr's EI methodology.
FYI, ottocinclus catfish eat BG algae; however, I tried a small school (5) in our ten gallon; in 1 year, there was only 1 survivor. It maybe cruelty keeping ottocinclus in any sort of captivity; I don't know, maybe somebody who knows will chime in and inform?
...it's about the fish.
