Its what comes out when it hasnt been water logged/cooked...when ever get new wood. cook it in a large pot/bucket for a couple of days or leave on a stove for some hours..changing out the water..so no worries keep scraping it off or take it out and boil it
As far as I understand, it's technically a fungus, and it is nothing to worry about. Despite good cleaning, boiling, and leaving it in the sun for weeks to dry out, you can still end up with this.
The good news is that it will run its course and clear up on its own. Also, some of your livestock may enjoy eating it, and it won't hurt them in any way
If it gets to much to handle looking at, you can wipe some off, but I'd leave it be. I've heard taking it out and thoroughly cleaning can just start it all over again.
Mine has been there for a month and it has not gone away. I have since taken it out and dried it out in the Texas heat. Then will boil it and try to put it back.
I dried an already dried piece of manzanita through the summer here in Arizona then boiled it for 2 days and let it soak for 3 days and STILL got what you are experiencing. I took it out, scrubbed it clean, and boiled it for another day... It came right back haha. So I added a couple hungry nerite snails and they cleared it off in a few days.
