My whole tank if green after coming back from a weekend trip. I let the light schedule run as it has for a solid month before with no problems. I scrubbed down as much as I could off the rocks and glass but now it's growing back very quickly. I didn't run co2 while I was gone, but the plants still look healthy. Should I try killing the lights and co2 for a couple days? On my radion lights I currently have UV light turned all the way down, would I be better off turning this all the way up? As an fyi, I dose recommended micros and macros three times a week and do 50% water changes every sunday. Lights are on for 11.5 hours a day but only full intensity for 7 hours, they gradually get brighter from 8-10:30 and gradually dim from 5:30-7:30. Appreciate and help here.
Here's what worked for me - after I had tried several other often highlighted remedies - like 3 week black-outs, daily brushing/removal, changes to lighting periods, omitting fertilizers - whatever - nothing worked.
So, you need to buy, beg, borrow, or steal ( LOL) a UV sterilizer - you'll only need it for about a week.
Place it in your tank & turn it on. Brush off as much of the GDA as you can, in order to get it free-floating into the water column so that the UV can pick it up & zap it dead. Do it several times a day, for up to a week or so. You'll see the amount of BGA re-surfacing unto your glass reducing significantly by the day, until it totally disappears in just a few days - never to return. Try it - it worked for me & should for you too.
