Brown Algae.....

Well.... I noticed that I'm starting to get brown algae on the back of my 10 gal. again... and it doesn't look like my oto cat is eating any of it. Are they known for eating brown algae? And if not, what is sumthing that I could by or use to get rid of it?

Otos, waterchanges and balance will eventually win out with this type algae.
Do you use CO2? How heavily planted is the tank? Do you fertilize?
What is your wattage?

I do use Co2... DIY to be exact. The density of the plants is light... I have like 6 plants in the 10 gal. Fertilize as in what? I have red Flourite as my gravel..... and I think 1.5 wpg.

At 1.5 watts/gal. you won't need much in the way of nutrients at this time.
My guess is that this is a relatively new set up, correct? They are prone to all types of algae until they mature.
Keep doing weekly water changes of 30 - 50% and let them grow in, and along with the maturation of the tank, over time you will see an improvement.
The CO2 will help in any lighting situation.
What kind of plants do you have? Fish quantity and type?

The tank has been setup for while.... I would say like 6 months or so.... I have 3 small w. crypts, 1 med. size lutea? , 1 small java fern, and 2 small unid plants. I have 4 fish in the tank. 3 of which are dwarf puffers, the other one is an oto catfish.

Putting a few stems plants in will help with the situation.
Also, continue the water changes, and clean it up. The algae will come down as the tank matures.
