Fluval Edge algae bloom

I've had a very happy and healthy Fluval Edge for the past two years. I added a strip of superbright led's two weeks ago along with a couple more pants and things have gone haywire. There is carpet algae growing everywhere (pic attached), snails have exploded (pic attached) and my java fern seems to be covered in brown algae and dying.

Is this a phase that will cycle through or is this going to be a constant problem? Any tips?

FYI I have a low tech setup, basically as the tank came from factory. No CO2, but I did do liquid fertilizer.

The LEDs are to bright and you have no co2 that causes the algae bloom. Get rid of your "brighty LEDs " or by a co2 system. Cheers

Way too much light, not enough plants.

Don't even bother with CO2 unless you want to pack that thing with plants.

29 Gallon Low Tech (RCS / cory tank)

FYI the Edge comes with 21 or 42 led lights. Mine only came with 21 and half of them stopped working. I then added 25 similar LEDs mainly so I can see the fish. So I am not sure that this is "way too much light" unless the stock feature coming with most Edges is also way too much light. But I may be leaving them on too long. They are on about 12hrs/day.

I'd cut down the time for the lights. Also, the water circulation might not be enough. I started using a small pump for my Edge and the algae I had started to subside.
