New type of tank!!

Hey guys,

One of our sponsors is trying to release a new nano tank. I love it, so I'm getting behind it as a long time supporter of nano tanks.

It really hits all the checkmarks on my list for nano tanks. It's around $100, and it has some cool options for plant lovers.

My prediction is it'll be a great showcase tank for your favorite shrimp species.

If you would like to support our sponsor, you can do it there, or you can order a tank.

They even have an option to add on a UV light, which would allow you to produce veggies and stuff from your fish tank to eat.

I know it's a hefty price. I really want to support them though, so I put in.

They reached their funding, and now are going for a couple neat reach goals, which would afford us some cloud/lightning effects.

I know I'm personally considering using this as an Opae Ula tank.

i like the aesthetics, but what is the difference between this and the betta vases with lilies that have a knack of ph crashes and fish death ?

I suppose I'm confused as to your question..

Ph crashes are user related. You can use the tank/filter however you like it. I personally will be using the filter more for the filter than the plant, but the plant is neat.

If you clear up your question maybe I can respond better.

in the like the video said the plant is the filter and there is no need for water changes
with no new water the plant will "eat up" all available minerals causing a drop in tds causing a ph drop , no?
causing "old tank syndrome "

similar to the vase with lilies rooted in them witch said "no need for new water or food the fish will eat the plant roots and the plant will clean the water "

Now I see what you're saying. I can't attest to that, but I can only say the plant can't be that much different than water lettuce. I don't honestly think it'll impact the environment that much. I think if you grew a bunch of things, your outcome is possible.

It definitely needs water changing, but people will have to figure that one out on their own.

I think he is refering to this setup
http://www.petco.com/product/122934/...sultRedirect=1
If the link is removed go to Petcos website and search "Back to the Roots AquaFarm"

I was wondering the same thing actually. I mean I like the look of this thing, but the only difference other than the look seems to be the uv filter.

I'm still considering getting one. It didn't see a capacity in the description. Do you know how big the tank is. it looks small, like 1 - 3 gallons.

the difference between the betta vase and this tank is that this tank has moving water and is based on the idea of aquaponics. the ph crash is a possibility but no more than any other type of tank. its almost the same as a HOB filter youre just using a plant instead of regular filter media...
generally with an aquaponics system you also overstock your tank
plants as filters are able to process more waste than a standard filter

The tank with the filter included should be 2g.

I still won't be overstocking, as this is just one tank, but I will let my shrimp breed as much as they want!

Bringing up an old thread. Nice concept. Would like to help them out. But, kinda disappointed that the UV is not included, until you pledge $150. Anyone else feel this way? Or am I off base?
