First Bowl, 1CFL, Filterless

I recently moved and am now restricted to two tanks (by request from wife...though it's probably a good idea anyway). I've got a 55g and 29, but am considering setting up a bowl with an old vase/fish bowl that I had laying around. Its an odd shape, kind of volcano like, with only about 4" of opening at the top. I'll probably end up rescuing the few surviving RCS in the 29 that my tetras haven't yet found for stocking. Undecided on dirt for now, which is what I have in the two tanks. Any suggestions on plants?
I'm open to pretty much anything. I would like to thin out some plants from the larger tanks for the bowl, but there's not too much that would be suitable other than the moss.
Has anyone ever grown immersed versions of larger species in a bowl setup? I've got probably a dozen sword runners in the 55. Seems like that would be kind of a cool effect growing out of the top.
I also have a few small clips of cabomba that once grew like weeds in both of the tanks, but for some reason almost completely died out suddenly a few months ago. Has anyone used that with an success in nanos?

I have bacopa monnieri growing out of one vase, now with about 4" of emersed growth. And in another my Ludwigia Repens began to break the surface about a week ago. I imagine there are plenty of other stems that could grow well like this in a vase. I'm not sure about a rosette type plant, but I'm sure if there is enough humidity in the room they can grow emersed well.
