I had an empty fluval edge a few months ago after an upgrade so I dediced to make it a shrimp tank, did an aquascape and threw in some discount plants from petsmart and forgot about it. Recently I decided to clean it up and move my shrimp into it and I need some advice on where to go now.
I'm open to suggestions on anything.
With the led upgraded halogen bulbs I get a horrible spot light affect that produced some horrible algae. Right now I have the top off with a desk lamp that I put a incandescent cfl in.
My goals are:
get fitting plants for the tank (not tall ones, I like carpets)
figure out the lighting (need more spread)
avoid algae (this tank is very hard to clean and will probably get ignored from time to time)
Can someone suggest what should be done from this point on? I'm on a budget but want it to look good. What ever it takes to keep it from filling with algae.
maybe a cfl strapped to the arm?
I just remembered that shrimp like lower Ph, is there something that I should do to the tank or just make it a fish tank? I already did the substrate on an impulse so I can't replace it with shrimp substrate.
