Since this subforum has a nano fish list I was hoping it would also contain a plant listing for pico and nano tanks. Something that indicates the plant height and growth habit e.g. creeping, stem, etc.
Anyway, going to search further into the forums to see if such a listing has already been compiled.
I think the only plants I consider to not be "nano" are some swords. Many that can grow huge still can be kept in a smaller tank, maybe not a nano, if they don't get a lot of light.
The other thing is foreground. Some plants that look great as a foreground in a 100+ gallon tank are used as background plants in a nano.
I have probably kept more plants in a nano sized tank that most hobbyist have had in their super large tanks. I know I had almost 35 species of plants in a 5.5 at one time. It's all about knowing what they will look like or having another place if they don't work. For example, I always cringe when I see blyxa japonica in a sub 5 gallon tank as low growing plant. It can easily get 6-7 in tall and take the tank over. Fine if you have the right place, not so good for iwagumi, for example. And yes, I have had it in a 5 gallon and was perfectly happy, not a bad plant for a nano, just a bad foreground plant.
