Another "Office/Desk" Tank question...

So while I wait to setup my 30g at home, I would like to start a 4g to 5g at work...

Here are two I am looking at... It will have minimum planting. No idea what right now. Just want to keep a Beta or something in it.

Ecoxotic EcoPico:
http://www.petco.com/product/117299/...TanksAquariums

Pros: Seems well built, seems to have great lighting, pretty stylish
Cons: Know nothing about the filter, expensive

Aqueon Evolve 4:
http://www.petco.com/product/117467/...TanksAquariums

Pros: Cheaper, parts at petco, on sale for $50 in store
Cons: No idea on light even though says suitable for plants, not quite as stylish

Just curious what everyone thinks about these.

I know I will need a small heater too. What do people do about feeding on the weekends?

Another "Office/Desk" Tank question...

I don't feed the tank on my desk during the weekend... So far no problem.

I just set up an Aqueon Evolve4. While at first I was concerned about it being plastic and acrylic, I like it very much now. Can't wait to get it cycled and stocked. It fits nicely on my desk. I'm hoping the light is adequate for my plants... I chose low to medium light plants anyway. Set up was simple.

I have the Evolve4 on a desk here at home. It's been set up for a week.

I have fast growing stems and a male betta in it.

Two things about the tank...

No matter how low you set the flow on the little filter, it blows the fish around the tank. Baffled with a piece of a new knee high stocking...much better now.

The pump started off quiet and then got louder, and louder and louder. Yesterday's water change (the second one in a week, ammonia at .25ppm, 0 on nitrites and nitrates, pH holding steady at 7), I shoved some new polyester quilt batting down between the pump and the wall of the back of the tank. (You need little fingers to pull this one off - I borrowed fingers from my five year old granddaughter.)

Silence can be golden...

So I have been having trouble, struggling to figure out what is the best bang for my buck...

Then I went to a local PetQuarters, they have an OceanView 20 x 10.5 x 12 tank for only $15.

That would leave my budget much more wide open for other things. Anyone ever heard anything about these? I have been doing searches and coming up empty.

The only problem is I was really only looking for a 5gal, 10g seems like a lot for a Beta. Guess I could go with other fish LOL

I have an Evolve 8 set up at work and it is doing great. The light is enough to grow my crypts and some stems. I have no issues with no feeding during the weekends.

Between the first two choices, I haven't had either but have had acrylic and glass tanks and do appreciate the glass tank better. The clarity is better imho, and it's easier to clean algae off with a blade. There are some good reviews on the link that you have that talk about the lighting and modifying the filter to reduce the flow. As long as it will be planted, the filtration should be ok for a betta. If it were me, I'd go with the Ecopico.

Do you have a link to the OceanView tank? It would be nice to select the right filter and lighting to suit your needs, but you could easily spend $100 for a good led light.

Thats the problem, I cannot find a single bit of info on it.

I suppose I could even go with something like this...

Pretty much the same thing as the OceanView.

I like the EcoPico, but seems a bit pricey for what you get. And I like the Aquaeon Evolves. Pretty nice for an acrylic.

The advantage I see to getting a 10gal basic glass starter is I can get all my own stuff. I was thinking depending on the size of getting the cheapest Finnex I could get.

Eheim aquastyles at that size would be in the high light range. I have a 9 gal version and its a tad big for my desk but my desk is at home.

IMO ecopico looks cooler. Never looked at them closely though.

Re: Another "Office/Desk" Tank question...

I have a thread going on about which one to pick as well.

I just bought an Evolve8 today and am more than thrilled with it! Am actually considering buying a second one. Petsmart is having a sale on them plus free shipping!

I guess I prefer the look of rimless, but you could most likely find better quality outside a package deal. That said, either one seems good for the relative pricing. I guess just go with whichever one you feel better about. Your betta will appreciate the space in either.

I think I am going to try an Aquaeon Evolve 4 or 8 first. They are on sale at Petco, people seem to like them, built in light and filter seem nice. At worse I can get another light.

By the time I buy an empty 10gal, get a decent light, and a filter, I am at $100.

Now it is just deciding on the 4 or 8. I can't decide if I just want a Beta or a couple different fish.

Yeah, online and in store they are having sales on them. The in-store sale on the Evolve4 seems to be better than the online if I recall, being at $50 and online for $70 although I cannot remember the in-store price for sure.. The online for the Evolve8 seems to be better than the in-store, instore being $100.

So here is where I am now...

Things I will need regardless:
Aqueon Heater for 10g or less - $20
Possibly a cheap CO2 setup

Tank Setup 1:
5 Gallons
Ecoxotic EcoPico - $100
Two LED Strip Upgrades - $50
Notes: I feel like for what I want I would need the LED upgrades, but correct me if I am wrong

Tank Setup 2:
4 Gallons
Aqueon Evolve4 - $70
10" Finnex FugeRay Ultra Slim LED - $30
Notes: I feel like for what I want I would need the Finnex, but correct me if I am wrong

Tank 3 Setup:
5.5 Gallons
Aqueon 5.5 Basic Glass Tank - $15
Aqueon QuiteFlow 10 - $15
16" Finnex Ray II Ultraslim LED - $60
Notes: Only problem is no top... And I feel like if I got a glass canopy top, the black piece in the middle would restrict my light.

Any thoughts?
