Water changes in a planted tank

Hi All,

Been reading a lot before diving in, and seeing some conflicting ideas. In a low-tech nano (or bigger even, but light at 1-2 Watts per gallon, filter, heavily/densely planted, maybe some ferts/excel), are water changes required once the plants establish? Some peoplel post about 25% changes weekly or monthly (used to that from un-planted tanks), some say no water changes needed if you have a jungle of plants (low light, no co2)

What's the consensus?

On a low-tech tank you could get away with 25% water changes weekly. I usually do around 1/3 of my low tech tank and everything is going great with it

My heavy planted 4g dirt tank with shrimps, crabs, and fish gets a half gal. water change per week.

My 10g (heavily planted, CPD, shrimp, nerites) gets tested 2X a week and water changes as needed. I have gone as long as 3 months with top-offs only
