I've also got a 10 gal that I just set up.
Got my CO2 with a homemade reactor and a 50 some gph pump.
Got 2 10 gal light fixtures over top resting on a sheet of glass on the tank.
Substrate: Currently using expanded clay pellets. Brand name hydroton.
They dont look the nicest but work great. The plants will eventually overgrow them anyways. To hold them down I have some light mesh on top to keep them from floating around too much as they are quite light.
4x 26 watt screw in CF bulbs. So err thats like 10wpg.
I'm thinking a little overkill.. I'm surprised I have no problems with algae.
As for fertilizers. I have the Flourish Trace. I put in half a capfull once a week.
Mono Potassium Phosphate, Potassium Nitrate, Magnesium Sulfate I add a pinch of these into the tank maybe once every two or 3 days.
Meh.. No test kits for me either. No idea what my params are :P.
Seems to be working right now for me.
Growing some red crypt. Pellia, one other unknown, dwarf hair grass and hemianthus callitrichoides.
Sorry if this didnt help much!
